William "Billy" J. Powell, 74, of Winslow, Maine, passed away unexpectedly at Maine General Health Center in Waterville, on Sunday March 17th, 2024, completely surrounded by family and friends. Billy was born in Waterville, Maine, on June 23rd,1949. The son of Grace (Heath) Powell and Alan Powell. He attended schools in Oakland and later returned to graduate in Waterville. He held several jobs over the years, though made a career at Mid Maine Medical Center starting in Security, then continuing for another 25 years in Shuttle Services.
Billy adored his family and made friends everywhere he went. He always had a good joke to tell. You could find him often at Dunkin' Donuts hanging out with his buddies drinking coffee, driving in his car, or riding his bike. His heart was so big, and he had so much love inside.
He was predeceased by both his parents; his stepfather William Kolreg; his five brothers Ted, Bobby, Walter, Alan, and Herman Powell; his sister Nancy Decker; and stepdaughter Stacy, whom he raised as his own from birth.
He is survived by his loving wife of 46 years Bonnie Powell of Winslow; son William with wife Nicole Chute of Dresden; daughter Crystal Whittemore of Waterville; stepdaughter Melissa with husband Bill Proctor of Canaan; brother John with wife Connie Powell of Michigan; ten grandchildren and nine great grandchildren which he thought the world of; as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, and special friends.
A celebration of life is planned for Saturday June 29th, 2024, at St. Bridget Center in Vassalboro, Maine 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. with graveside services to follow.
