Madison – Theodore Joseph Comeau, 61, passed away on Wednesday January 15th, 2025, at home unexpectedly due to unknown causes. Affectionately known as "Teddy" or "Ted" by those who knew and loved him, was born in Waterville on February 26th, 1963, son to Joseph Theodore and Doris Caroline "Bouchard" Comeau. He received his education in Madison Schools. Being raised Catholic he was a strong believer in his faith though he did not regularly attend services.
Ted worked various jobs over his many years in the Madison area. Including but not limited to being a skilled carpenter, a mason tender, a roofer, a laborer, and a painter. He spent many years maintaining an apartment building in town for his landlord. He worked as a landscaper for local citizens and businesses as well. He took pride in making and keeping things beautiful, always paying attention to the details. Ted loved working with wood and building unique things like birdhouses, jewelry boxes, picnic tables, and such. His passion was really for the outdoors. He loved the warmer months when he could take walks, explore nature, go fishing, and just enjoy fresh air and sunshine in a pretty spot by the river. These are the moments he enjoyed peace and tranquility. Ted was a man who loved his family and friends fiercely and was loyal to them. Madison and the people in it were not just his home, they were a part of who he was, and he was very proud of that.
Anyone who knew him knew that he was drawn to supernatural things, such as ghosts and Bigfoot, the possibilities fascinated him. On his best days you would find him surrounded by his favorite people in a backyard on a nice summer day, with a fire, a barbecue, and a cold one in his hand. Teddy will be missed by all who knew him and celebrated by us all in the same ways.
He was predeceased by both his parents; his brother Albert Goguen, his nephew Jason Goguen, his niece Kayla Bessey; and many cherished friends including roommate Keith Bolduc and family friend Marisha Bishop. These losses touched him immensely.
Ted is survived by his only child Cassie Blanchard with her fiancé Nicholas Mitchell; four grandchildren Alexia Riendeau, Nicholas A.R. Mitchell, Calib Dawes, and Caliope Dawes; brother Alan Goguen with his wife Wendy; big sister Joy Bagley with her significant other Keith; niece Brandi Dawes with her husband Matt, and great nieces and nephew Cade and Logan Bruneau; as he liked to say "baby sister" Therese Merrill with her husband Clyde; nephew Chris Comeau with his wife Kylee and their sons Kaiden, Kort, and Cooper; and niece Heather Bowley with her husband Justin and their son Levi. He leaves behind countless close friends, who I will try to remember them all. These include lifelong friends Calvin and Kim Bessey and their daughter Tia along with all their extended family, Lu-Wana and the entire Nile family, Lonnie Clukey, Bruce, Cathy, Deborah O'Donald and their entire extended family, Bobby and Rhonda Bishop, Keith Edwards, Denny Caron, and Randy Oliver. On a special note, he was very close with and fond of Fran Smith. He had nothing but positive things to say about her. She took great care of Ted in every way she could, and we could never be more grateful for him for having that companionship in the last few years of his life especially. Also deserving a special thank you to are Fran's children Nakita Cole, Davida Cole, and most definitely not least, Chelsea Oliveira. Ted and Chelsea had a special bond, he cared for her and cherished their time together deeply and spoke of her often.
The family would like to thank Smart and Edward's funeral home for taking such great care of us at such a difficult time.
We would also like to personally thank Lonnie Clukey for being such a great friend to Teddy even after he had left us. We cannot thank you enough for your continued support.
When the weather is back to warm and beautiful the way he liked it, we will have a celebration of life and a spreading of ashes. All who loved him will be welcome. We will announce the details at a later date.
