Obituary

Thelma C. Foss “Gram Foss”, 91, of Skowhegan and formerly of Athens, passed away peacefully in her home in Skowhegan with her family by her side. Born June 4, 1922 in Madison, Maine, the daughter of Ralph Collins and Mary (Rogers) Collins. She attended Madison Schools. She was a lifelong resident of Athens, Maine, living with her husband Raymond L. Foss who predeceased her in 2000. Thelma and her husband Raymond in their early years farmed with the Foss family, she also worked in the Shoe Shop in Skowhegan. Then Thelma and Raymond moved on to owning their own grocery store in Pittsfield, Maine, then onto Unity still in the grocery store business, and they then purchased Elm St. Market in North Anson, Maine. They operated that together until retirement. After that they owned and operated Smitty’s Campground and the dance hall for a few years and then retired once again. She was predeceased by her only daughter Arlene M. Foss Perkins, four sisters Hattie Bean, Lorena Dameron, Pearl Carl, Barbara Collins, four brothers Arthur Rogers, Milton Rogers and Everett Rogers Sr., Ralph Collins Jr., and great-granddaughter Morgan M. Perkins. Thelma is survived by her grandson Bruce Perkins and his wife Janice Perkins and their three children Monique Conners, Chris Perkins, Justin Perkins and his fiancé Jessica Leonard, great-great grandchildren; Gemini August, Gunner Perkins, her granddaughter; Roxann King and her husband Joe and her two children; Glen Cossaboom and his wife Melanie and step son Logan, Stacey Cossaboom and her fiancé Ben Wilkinson, and her great-great grandchild Benjamin, Carol Watson that was like a daughter to Thelma “Gram” her companion for 12 years. She also leaves many nieces, nephews and close friends, and her longtime friends Marion Bubar, Barbara Tissue, and Carolyn Farrington. The family would like to thank the staff and the volunteers at Eastern Maine Visiting Nurses and Hospice of Eastern Maine for all their support and care for our Gram Foss. Viewing hours will be held on Monday November 11, 2013 from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan. A funeral service will be held on Tuesday November 12, 2013 at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with a committal to follow at the Mount Rest Cemetery in Athens.
