Susanne Marie Smith Humphries, 88, passed away July 3rd, 2024, to spend Independence Day & eternity with her Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. Sue was born March 3rd, 1936, blind in one eye, but is now rejoicing in heaven with her sight fully restored, seeing the glory of her Creator firsthand.
Sue was loved by her family and friends. She had only one enemy-Satan. Oh, how she prayed for those who fell for the devil's schemes- those unaware of Satan's hold on their life. When bad things happened, instead of saying 'why God?', she was reminded that God said there would be hardship on earth, but He promised to stay right by her side through the good times and the bad. He never broke that promise.
Her adventurous spirit was evident since childhood. She graduated from St. Mary's and Norwalk High in Norwalk, Connecticut, with the distinct honor of being named class comedian. Her quick wit and sense of humor stayed with her until her physical death.
As a young girl she was trapped in a stalled elevator in the Empire State building for hours where she later developed a phobia of heights due to the trauma. In her late 60's she attended 'Elevator Phobia Therapy' classes where she began overcoming her fear of elevators and heights. For her 70th birthday she surprised everyone by taking her first airplane ride and skydiving out of the plane. This was the Sue we all knew and loved. She also loved camping, painting, knitting, puzzles, Disney World, her Disney cruise with Jim and Nancy, boating, fishing, walking, and visiting lighthouses.
For 16 years she was a full-time loving Mom in Brookfield, Ct. After raising her children, she worked at Rotophone in Danbury, CT. An accomplished artist, Sue and her 2nd husband, Carl, moved to Florida where she worked at ProPhoto in Lakeland. A short time later they started their own business called 'The Country Folks', where her paintings and custom-made furniture were highly sought after. She and Carl were involved in Alcoholics Anonymous as counselors, sharing their testimonies and faith with those trapped in addiction. After Carl's death, Sue met and married Robert Humphries in Lake Wales, where they resided for ten years. After the death of her husband Robert, she resided in New Milford CT and Somerville ME with her children. Sue attended Wayside Baptist Church in Lake Wales, FL and Faith Church in Waterville, Maine.
Sue was predeceased by her parents, John Manning and Muriel Lupton Smith; her brother, John Ronald Smith; her first husband, Thomas Murtha Corbett, her second husband, Carl Werden, and her third husband, Robert Humphries. She was also predeceased by infant son, Michael Corbett, daughter, Linda Corbett, great-grandson Sutton Crowder and great-grandbaby Vaden.
