Madison – Scott William Newton, 38 of Madison passed away on July 24, 2023 while on a rafting trip on the Penobscot River. Rafting was one of Scott's great passions.
Scott was born February 15, 1985, in Skowhegan Maine to William and Deanna (Swain) Newton.
Scott graduated from Skowhegan Area High School, class of 2003, where he was a leader in the Outdoor Resources Program. This is where he developed his love of rafting and everything outdoors. He went on to receive his degree in Outdoor Recreation Management and Business Management from Washington County Community College.
For several years he worked as a raft guide and manager for North County Rivers Rafting in Bingham, Maine. He later went on to establish 201 PowerSports in Bingham, with his business partner, Scott Hunnewell. This business has grown tremendously over the past several years, so much that his wife, Mallory left the medical field to work alongside him. Together they participated in several trade shows throughout New England with members of their team. Scott had an incredible gift to gab and was right at home talking about all that the outdoors has to offer. His grandfather Swain would often say "Scott could sell ice to an Eskimo".
Scott and Mallory have been involved with the Moose Alley ATV Club and the Valley Riders Snowmobile Club. Scott was the trail master for the Bingham trail system. Date night for Scott and Mallory would sometimes consist of a late night trip in the trail groomer during snowmobile season.
Scott married his soulmate, Mallory Elliott, October 19, 2013 at their home in East Madison. He became a father to Riley and Hope, whom he loved more than anything. He was extremely proud of both girls and would always be there for them. Through rough times in his life, they were his biggest cheerleaders.
Scott was predeceased by his paternal grandparents, Donald and Betsy Newton and a cousin, Marc Swain Jr. He is survived by his wife, Mallory Newton, daughters, Riley and Hope Garland, his parents, William and Deanna Newton, his maternal grandparents, Malcolm and Irma Swain, mother in law Karen Weese, brother in law Derek Weese, wife Kassie and their daughter Harper and Mallory's grandmother Charlotte Elliott, along with several aunts, uncles, cousins and his best friend since the first grade, Aaron Gray, his wife Melissa and the entire Gray family. Scott touched the lives of so many and had so many friends all over the country.
Scott will be remembered for his sense of humor, caring way and his passion for the outdoors. The outpouring of love and support is overwhelming, much appreciated and a true testament to the person that we all know and love.
A celebration of Scott's life will be held Monday, August 7th at 1:00 pm at The Waters Edge Estate, 624 Waterville Road, Skowhegan, ME.
Arrangements are under the direction of Dan and Scott's Cremation, 445 Waterville Road, Skowhegan, ME.
In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Valley Riders Snowmobile Club and Moose Alley ATV Club, in care of Larry MacNeill at 201 PowerSports, 29 Main Street, Bingham, ME.
