Obituary

Cornville - Samuel Lawson Jencks Jr., 69, passed away on July 20, 2024, with his wife Julie Jencks, son Matthew Jencks, sister Catherine (Jencks Shippee) Ayres, niece Natasha Jencks-Ayres, and brother Roderick Jencks, by his side. Samuel was born in Fort Dix, New Jersey, on April 20, 1955, son of Samuel Lawson Jencks Sr. and Anna Rosamunda Carolina (Fuchs) Jencks. Samuel attended Toll Gate High School in Warwick, Rhode Island, and graduated from Beal College in Bangor in 1995. Sam began his work career as a blue-collar worker. Eventually starting his own business with friends, where they built steel buildings. After which, he started several home businesses with his wife. In his free time, he enjoyed volunteering. He was proud to be a member of Somerset Masonic Lodge #34 in Skowhegan, Safety Officer and Volunteer Firefighter for the Cornville Fire Department, board member of the town of Cornville Planning Board, chairman of the Board of Appeals, volunteer at Pine Tree Legal, co-chairman of the Board for the Cornville / Athens Food Pantry, Vice President of the Skowhegan Chamber of Commerce, a founder of the Cornville Charter School and served on the Board of Directors, and a board member of the Cornville Low Level Radioactive Waste Committee. He also spent many hours coaching youth basketball and a board member of Warwick Assembly of God. He was predeceased by his father, mother, and older brother Charles R. Jencks. Samuel is survived by his wife Julie (Laliberte) Jencks; sons Matthew A. Jencks with his fiancé Kimberly Barney, Phillip A. Jencks with his wife Angela (Turner) Jencks and their children: Jeramiah, Alexander, Nicholas, and Elijah, and Samuel J. Jencks with his wife Erin (Grant) Jencks with their children: Persais, Samuel, and Geneieve; brother Roderick A. Jencks "Speedy"; sister Catherine A. (Jencks Shippee) Ayres; and niece Natasha Jencks-Ayres. The Family would like to thank all the Doctors, Nurses, Nicole, April, Michelle, and Courtney from Northern Lights. Thank you to the Skowhegan and Belfast Masonic Lodges, and to all the Family and Friends that have supported us through this difficult time. There will be a Celebration of Life for Sam on August 4, 2024, at the Carrabassett Masonic Lodge from 12:00pm – 3:00pm, on Oak Pond Road, in Canaan, Maine.
