He graduated from Somerset Academy located In Athens Maine in 1954 and enlisted in the United States Air Force where he served in Germany until his honorable discharge in 1957.1958 was a big year for Bob marring the love of his life Patricia Gilcott on August 16 of that year that lasted for over 61 years before her passing in 2019.
Bob also Joined the Maine State Police in 1958 and started his career that would span 20 years of service and many moves around the state with his family in tow at every stop along the way. He was very dedicated to his job and worked his way to the rank Major before his retirement. Bob was proud of the people who he served with and considered them to be a part of his family.
After his retirement from the State Police, he stayed busy by building Hayden Simpson and Sons a custom sawmill located in Cornville with his father and sons on the family farm and operated it until the late 1980's. In 1979 Bob joined Cianbro Corporation and worked as a staffer based out of Pittsfield Maine. He was very dedicated to his job and enjoyed the people he worked with very much and built some lifelong friendships that would never leave his thoughts for the rest of his life.
Bob had many hobbies including hunting, fishing, playing golf, and coaching as well as playing baseball. He owned and raced horses for several years, but his favorite was stock car racing and watching his sons compete on the track at Unity Raceway. He loved being in the garage and hanging out with all the race people and helping out any way that he could. Bob and Pat would travel all over New England from Vt. NH., and Maine to watch short track racing for many years. He was a dedicated Boston sports fan through and through and loved to talk to anyone about the Red Sox, Celtics, and Patriots. The thing Bob loved the most was being with friends and family swapping stories, sharing a cheeseburger, drinking a Moxie and laughing.
Bob was a Proud member of the Masons Lodge located in Machias Maine and received his 50 year pin several years ago and was a member in good standing at the time of his passing. He was a member of the Retired Maine State Police Association, and he also joined the American Legion at age 88 because he was proud of his service in the Air Force.
