Reginald Joseph “Reggie” Duguay

January 8, 1934 – July 8, 2026

A life well lived.

Reginald Joseph “Reggie” Duguay passed away on Wednesday evening, July 8, 2026, at the age of 92. Born in Winslow, Maine, he was the youngest of eight children of Abraham Duguay and Rosanna (Peppin) Duguay.

Reggie was predeceased by his beloved wife of 33 years, Jean Duguay.

He is survived by his sister, Lorraine Estes; his daughter, Elaine Ritsema; and his son, Paul Duguay.

After graduating from Winslow High School, Reggie enlisted in the United States Navy, where his lifelong love of the sea grew even deeper. He served aboard the USS Treadfin (SS-410), a Balao-class submarine later modernized through the Navy’s Greater Underwater Propulsion Power Program, known as GUPPY, which improved the underwater performance of diesel-electric submarines. During his service, Reggie earned the National Defense Service Ribbon, attained the rank of TMT3 (SS), and was honorably discharged.

With the support of the GI Bill, Reggie went on to earn his Professional Engineer’s License in Mechanical Engineering from the University of Maine at Orono. He built a distinguished career at S.D. Warren Paper Mill, ultimately serving as Head of Engineering for two completed paper machines before taking early retirement.

Retirement gave Reggie the freedom to spend more time on the water he had always loved. For more than 20 years, he and Jean traveled aboard their 41-foot diesel-powered motor yacht, the “Rejean,” including two winter voyages from Maine to the Bahamas. After a life-threatening return voyage from the Bahamas, they traded the excitement of boating for Reggie’s growing love of horse racing. True to form, he found success there as well, with the walls of their home proudly reflecting his many accomplishments.

With much love and deep respect, our Dad will be greatly missed. His was truly a life well lived.
