Winslow – Nancy Gloria (Jean) Doty, 77, born on July 17, 1946, to Alcide Paul and Marcella Gladys (Lajoie) Jean, passed away from heart disease on September 8th, 2023, at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine.
Nancy was a proud and independent lady who lived her entire life, her way. She appreciated and coexisted with woodland creatures, and she absolutely loved her cat, Alpha. Nancy had an amazing green thumb, played daily in her backyard shed, and was an exceptionally talented seamstress, jewelry maker, and one fabulous cook.
Nancy, while raising her daughter completely on her own, went to Cony High School earning her GED. She then continued and obtained her degree in Psychology, as well as receiving her CDL License to become a bus driver.
She was employed at many shoe shops and clothing factories in her early years; Hallowell Shoe, Health Tex, L.L. Bean, Carlton Woolen Mill, Wise Uniform, and Statler Tissue. She also worked at Woodland Campgrounds at Belgrade Lakes as a cook and many restaurants in her lifetime; Poor Richard's, Rebecca's Place, Greg's Diner, just to name a few. As her child, I remember helping her memorize a Chinese menu.
Nancy felt blessed to have known so many special people and to have so many friends. She never wanted for much, just giver her favorite game show, The Weakest Link. She loved the smell of clothes that had been hung out to dry in the fresh air, fresh cut lawns, and after a rainstorm. Nancy couldn't get enough of the gorgeous sunsets. She will be missed very much.
She is predeceased by her brother Ralph A Jean, of Augusta, Maine.
Nancy is survived by her daughter Carrie Ann Gay and her husband Greg J. Gay, her grandchildren; Corey J Gay and Jerrica Mary Gay, great grandchildren Rohen Cade Gay, Cambria Jayde Gay of South China, Maine, and Aubrey Lynn Leeman, her sister Kathy (Jean) Murphy, nephews Shawn O Murphy of Brunswick, Maine, and Zachary Jean of Kingsville, Texas, niece Amanda Jean, and many cousins scattered all over the United States.
There will be no public memorial services held per Nancy's request.
