Michael “Mike” Barnes, 54, of Fairfield, passed away peacefully on February 27, 2026, with his loving family by his side. He was born on July 31, 1971.
Mike graduated from Winslow High School and worked for many years as a UPS driver, and was known for his reliability, strong work ethic and warm smile he brought to every customer. He had a natural ability to connect with people and was known for always sharing a smile, a joke, or a conversation.
Outside of work, Mike had a gift for bringing people together. Whether it was gathered around a grill and bonfire in the backyard, cheering on his favorite Kansas City Chiefs or Boston Bruins, or turning up Pearl Jam just a little too loud - he knew how to make any moment feel like a celebration. His love for family and friends were constants that everyone around him could count on.
Mike shared 32 wonderful years with his wife, Brenda Barnes, and was a loving and supportive husband. He was especially proud of his daughter, Lexi Barnes, who was the center of his world. He cherished every moment spent with her and took immense pride in her accomplishments, always offering unconditional love, support, and encouragement.
He is survived by his wife, Brenda Barnes; his daughter, Lexi Barnes; his mother, Reona Gogan and her husband, Walter; and his sisters, Michele Barnes and her partner, George Valkoun, Melody Fuller-Rousseau, and Debra Macleod.
Mike is also survived by his mother-in-law, Dianne Poulin; his sister-in-law, Barbie Brockway and her husband, Ryan Brockway; his nieces, Abby Belyea and Brittni Martell; and his nephews, Kevin Belyea, Cameron Brockway and Tyler Brockway. He will also be deeply missed by several aunts, uncles, cousins and many close friends and coworkers.
He was predeceased by his father, Donald Barnes, and his father-in-law, Raymond Poulin.
In keeping with Mike’s wishes, there will be no funeral service. A celebration of his life will be held at a later date.
The family would like to extend their heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Maine Medical Center in Portland, Maine, for their care and compassion.
Mike will be remembered for his humor, kindness, and the way he could light up any room he entered. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who knew and loved him.
