Obituary

Matthew Douglas Hallowell Sr., 52, of Skowhegan, ME. Passed away unexpectedly on Monday July 3, 2023. Matthew was born in Waterville, ME. on January 28, 1971, the son of Douglas A. Hallowell Sr. and Faith E. (Weston) Hallowell. Matthew grew up in Augusta, ME. and attended Cony High School until his 11th grade year. Matt was well known to the community in Augusta, making many friends, and extended family of choice over his lifetime. Matthew explored different types of employment trying to find his niche over the years. A basic jack of many trades master of some, if you knew Matthew you understood where he excelled the best! Matthew always encouraged local artists, vendors, and birds of a different feather in his local community! Matthew was a rebel at heart and lived his life on the edge. He shared memories of his childhood and school he attended in Eagle Lake, ME where he explored nature, fishing, water sports and made lifelong friends and memories. Returning to Augusta as a young adult Matthew lived his life on his own terms, surrounded by family friends and those he cared for most. Matt was a gentle giant, and would give anything he had, take in anyone who needed shelter, he gave his whole heart to all those he cared for. Matt was a lover of all animals, but he loved most raising and breeding pit bulls, especially his loves Loca & Rosie! Matthew was predeceased by his parents father Douglas Hallowell Sr, mother Faith E. Hallowell, sister Shelia Jackson, brother-in-law Carl C.J Jackson Jr. his one true love Barbara Penny, and son Matthew Douglas Hallowell Jr. Matthew is survived by uncle Carl (Bo) Weston and wife Cheri, his sister Alicia Hafford and daughter Lacie, Sister Cynthia Hallowell and son Quinn, brother James Hallowell and children Donaven, Aarika, and Christina, sister Stephaine Hallowell and her children Theia, Abel and Nataley, brother Casey Hallowell, nephew Carl Jackson, nephew Chris Jackson and his wife Adrianna, and their daughters Elyza & Sundai. Our extended family the Henderson, special friends such as Wanda Tardiff and her children, Kervin Doughty, Dave Peaslee, Jesse Peaslee, TJ & Billy Hafford, and many, many friends, sisters, brothers, nephews, nieces, and loved ones of choice! Matthew did not wish to have a service, or funeral at the time of his death. He wanted his family to spread his ashes privately in places he held dear to his heart. However, his family understands we all need a space to celebrate him and say goodbye. There will be a small celebration of life in the soon to be determined future. Please stay tuned via his social media for an update on this service. We hope to do this around mid-August in the Augusta area! ‎The family would like to share this prayer for Matthew and give praise for he know is in the Kingdom of Heaven with his loved ones! Psalm 23: The LORD is my shepherd; I shall not want. He maketh me to lie down in green pastures: he leadeth me beside the still waters. He restoreth my soul: he leadeth me in the paths of righteousness for his name's sake. Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow of death, I will fear no evil: for thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff they comfort me. Thou preparest a table before me in the presence of mine enemies: thou anointest my head with oil; my cup runneth over. Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life: and I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
