Obituary

Mary "Betsy" C. Hall passed away peacefully on March 6, 2026, at her home at Redington Memorial Home in Skowhegan. Betsy was born in Skowhegan on July 15, 1931, the daughter of Lyle S. and Fred E. Chase. She graduated from Skowhegan High School in 1949 and later attended college in Virginia. In the 1960's, she continued her education at the University of Maine at Farmington, where she earned her B.A. in Education. Upon graduation, Betsy began a 35-year career as a kindergarten teacher in the Skowhegan schools, lovingly known as "Mrs. Hall" to several generations of children. On February 2, 1952, she married Ronald "Pop" J. Hall of Bingham, Maine. They shared 60 wonderful years of marriage until his passing in 2012. Betsy was predeceased by her husband, Pop; her parents; her sister, Nancy Geaney; and her dear friend, Deane Wentworth. She is survived by her three daughters: Gail Conway and husband, Jay; Pam Butler and fiancé, Lew Laney; and Janet Sirois and her husband, Tim. She is also survived by her grandchildren: Seth & Lori Conway, Travis Conway and Kath Dailey, Ben and Kelly Butler, and Jessica Sirois; and her great-grandchildren: Ella and Layla Conway, and Grace, Maggie, Evan, and Theo Butler. Betsy leaves behind a large and loving extended family, including her nieces and nephews—Ellen, Mike, Liz, Jo, and Paul Geaney—and their families; as well as her cousin, Jane Sexton, and her husband, John. She is also survived by the children of her dear friend Deane: Jane Wentworth and family, and John Wentworth and his husband, Jamie Gluck. The family would like to express their heartfelt gratitude to the medical staff at Redington Medical Associates, the staff at the Redington Memorial Home, and the MaineGeneral Hospice team for their care and compassion during Betsy's final days. Betsy's wishes are for a graveside burial with family and close friends in the summer of 2026. Donations in her memory may be made to a charity of your choice.
