Mary C. Clough
Madison - Mary C. Clough, 92, of Madison, Maine, passed away peacefully on October 4, 2023, with her beloved son Daniel, daughter in law Debbie and Marlene by her side. She was born on May 5, 1931, in Madison, the daughter of August and Susie Foster. Mary graduated from Madison Memorial High School in 1949 where she laid the foundation for a life of purpose and dedication.
Throughout her life, Mary exemplified the values of hard work and commitment. She embarked on a successful career working for several businesses in the community while co-operating her business, Clough Motor Incorporated, established with her late husband, George Clough in the 1960's. Her unwavering dedication led her to retire from the Madison Water District at the age of 82, while still managing the family business with her son Norris (Buddy) Clough. Upon Norris' onset of illness Mary then had the dedicated help of her right hand man Jimmy Folsom and her nephew Georgie Foster right up to her passing at the age of 92.
Beyond her professional achievements, Mary found solace and joy in her hobbies. She had a green thumb and delighted in tending to her garden. In the kitchen she showcased her culinary skills, creating delicious meals for her loved ones. Mary also enjoyed the challenge of puzzles, finding delight in their intricate designs. However, her greatest passion was caring for animals, both her cherished pets and any stray creatures that crossed her path.
Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband, George E. Clough; her parents, August and Susie Foster; her brother, Augusta Foster Jr.; and her beloved son, Norris (Buddy) Clough.
Mary leaves behind a legacy of love and cherished memories. She is survived by her beloved son, Daniel, and his devoted wife, Debbie, of Madison; her grandson, Scott Clough, and his wife Jennifer, of Madison; her two great-granddaughters, Olivia and Ashlee, of Madison; her youngest sons companion Marlene and her family all of Madison; her sister-in-law, Betty Foster, and her family; her dear friends, Ronnie and Sally Moody, who were like family to her providing constant companionship and support visiting her several times daily.
A small graveside service will be held at a later date at the South Side Cemetery in Skowhegan, Maine, where Mary will be laid to rest.
In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests contributions to the Skowhegan Humane Society, honoring Mary's compassion and love for animals.
Mary C. Clough will be deeply missed by all whose lives she touched. May her soul find eternal peace, and may her memory be a source of comfort and inspiration for those who knew and loved her.
