Mary Catherine (Wright) Arch

May 16, 1937 - October 21, 2026

Skowhegan, Maine — We sadly announce the passing of our beloved mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Mary Arch, who passed peacefully with her family by her side on Wednesday, October 21, at Redington Fairview General Hospital.

She was born in Houlton, Maine, on May 16, 1937, to Theodosia (Folsom) Wright and John Wright, the sixth of seven children. She attended St. Mary's Catholic School before joining the workforce as a young woman. She worked for her brother, John Wright, Jr., at the family dry cleaners while also working the annual potato harvest with her family.

She married Lawrence William Arch in September 1957. Together they had four children: Daniel Arch, Kathryn Arch, Jamie Arch, and Jan Arch. They lived for many years in Houlton before moving to Smithfield, Maine.

She worked hard in her later years to obtain her high school diploma, graduating as the class valedictorian from Skowhegan Area High School. She worked for many years at the Skowhegan Dry Cleaners and cleaned area homes. Her hobbies included crocheting, reading, and cheering on the Red Sox.

She was predeceased by her parents, John and Theodosia Wright; her brothers, John Wright, Jr., Gerald Wright, and Robert Wright; her sisters, Maxine Gildred, Norman Jean Emery, and Elizabeth Cone; and her children, Daniel Arch, Jamie Arch, and Kathy Arch.

She is survived by her daughter, Jan Clark, and son-in-law, Sean Clark, of Norridgewock; her granddaughter, Jessica Dorr, and her husband, Derek Dorr, and their children, Declan and Malcolm, of Lovell; her granddaughter, Taylor Rancourt, and her partner, Matt York, and their children, Jasper and Carter, of Canaan; her grandson, Colby Rancourt, and his wife, Jordann Rancourt, and their son, Jameson, of Pittsfield; and many beloved nieces and nephews.

The family would like to extend their sincere thanks to the staff at Redington Fairview General Hospital for their care and compassion. Arrangements will be handled by Somerset Valley Remembrance Center. A graveside service will be held at a later date.
