China - Mark M. Reynolds, 70, passed away peacefully at home on September 22, 2023, from brain cancer. Mark was born on February 4,1953, in Cincinnati, Ohio to parents Mark and Peggy Reynolds.
Mark graduated from Walnut Hills High School in 1971 and the University of Cincinnati in 1974. Mark went on to Dental School and graduated from Ohio State University in 1977. He continued his lifelong pursuit of excellence and education in medicine and was brilliant in so many different areas of life.
Mark practiced dentistry for over 40 years in Augusta and served as the President of the Maine Dental Association in 1989-1990. He also taught doctors at the Family Medicine Institute how to extract teeth, which was invaluable in rural areas where there are no dentists. Mark retired in 2017, however he never sat still as he taught Math and Bible at Temple Academy in Waterville, and also did building projects for free for many people, even after being diagnosed with cancer.
In 2006 Mark married the love of his life, Lori, and they lived a life beyond imagination in China, ME. Their slogan always was, "Better Together," and they were each other's best friends and soulmates. Their strong faith in Jesus was their guiding force, and they adored attending Centerpoint Community Church and all the people there. Mark knew the Bible inside and out as he had walked with Jesus since 1972 and loved to share that knowledge with others. In previous churches Mark was also involved in teaching, leading worship, being on church councils and boards, and serving in any way he could.
Mark excelled at almost everything he did and over the years enjoyed golf, tennis, baseball, softball, rock climbing, skiing, sky diving, scuba diving (Mark and Lori's "happy place") and riding his Harley next to Lori riding hers. Mark was also a pilot and flight instructor, and absolutely loved flying his plane.
Mark and Lori shared a love of traveling, especially the Caribbean, and bought a house in Freeport, Grand Bahama as they loved to scuba dive with sharks. There, they found their second church home, Freeport Bible Church, and loved being with the people there when they were on island. Mark and Lori did several mission trips to Guatemala and also to Rwanda. There, Mark would work for days, extracting thousands of teeth on many who had never seen a dentist before. His passion was always to help others, and he did it well.
Mark is survived by his wife Lori; his children Matthew and Katie Reynolds of Port Saint Lucie, FL, and their children Rebekah, Jacob, Caleb, and Hannah; Jay Reynolds of Orlando, FL; Andy and Rachel Reynolds of Winslow, ME, and their children Chase and Chloe; Mani Reynolds of Pompano, FL; Brandon Sullivan of Delevan, NY and his children Ellie and Kierra; Catherine and Jordan Burns of Middletown, OH and their children Nolan and Harper; his sister Robin Reynolds Huller of Villa Hills, KY, and several nieces and cousins.
Mark was predeceased by his parents, and his daughter Bethany in 1989.
Mark and Lori would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the Harold Alfond Center for Cancer Care in Augusta where Mark received wonderful care. We would also like to thank Dr. Michael Cohen, Mark's brilliant brain surgeon at Northern Light Neurosurgery & Spine in Bangor, along with Kendra who would always do Mark's shunt adjustments. Thank you to Beacon Hospice, who provided us with a support team that was invaluable. Mark wasn't with them long, but they became like family. From the bottom of our hearts, we would like to thank the incredible team at Maine Health Cancer Care in South Portland, ME. Dr. Christine Lu-Emerson along with Sam, April, and Abbie not only provided exceptional medical care, but also became treasured friends for life. We couldn't have done this without you!
And finally, we would like to thank the hundreds of people around the world that have been praying for us since Mark's diagnosis in January 2022. It meant the world to us knowing you were interceding on our behalf and that so many prayers were being said and heard.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, September 30th at 1:00 p.m. at Centerpoint Community Church, 155 West River Rd. in Waterville, ME with a reception directly following.
