1937-2014 EAST MADISON - Lura N. Hayden, 76, of East Madison, passed away peacefully at home Wednesday, June 11, 2014, after a brief illness with her daughter by her side. Born in Skowhegan on Nov. 23, 1937, she was the daughter of Roy E. and Florence M. (Worthley) Scott. Lura worked for many places including the Woolen Mill in Clinton, Norrwock Shoe in Skowhegan, Dirigo Stitching in Skowhegan, Hannaford's, and with the elderly in their homes. She enjoyed crocheting, knitting, sewing, quilting, playing cards and cribbage with friends and family, hunting, fishing, camping, four-wheeling, baking cakes for special events and bird watching. She especially enjoyed watching the humming birds that frequented her flowers. She adored her grandchildren and spent time with them enjoying the outdoor activities that she loved. She is survived by her daughter, Sharon L. Dempsey, of Connecticut; two grandchildren, Scott H. Dempsey and Rachel A. Dempsey, both of Connecticut; three stepbrothers, Robert, Kenneth and Russell Smith; seven sisters and brothers-in-law; along with several nieces, nephews and cousins. Lura was predeceased by her husband of 54 years, Alfred Hayden, who passed Feb. 14, 2011; her parents; and three siblings, Walter, George and Juanita Scott. The family would like to thank Eastern Maine Medical Center Grant 6 and Beacon Hospice staff for all their care and support A graveside service will be at 4 p.m. Monday, June 16, at Southside Cemetery in Skowhegan, with the Rev.
