Canterbury,CT - Lucille Y. LaPlante, 89, passed away at her home surrounded by her loving family on May 8, 2017. She was born in Cornville, ME on July, 16, 1927, the daughter of John and Yvonne Thebarge. She graduated from Norridgewock High School in 1945, the last class to graduate from the high school.

On May 3, 1947, she married Emile J. LaPlante at the Notre Dame de Lourdes Church in Skowhegan, ME. Despite her declining health, they recently celebrated their 70th wedding anniversary with their family. For 52 of those years, Norridgewock ME was their home raising five children and celebrating mass at Notre Dame in Skowhegan. She was employed by Norwock Shoe for more than thirty years. In 1982, they moved to Rochester, NH where she worked for Encore Shoe until her retirement. In 1993, they moved back home to Norridgewock until 2010 when they moved to Canterbury, CT. They made lasting friends wherever they lived. All will remember the many dances, card parties, camping vacations and snowmobile trips. She was active alumnus of her high school and active member of the Cursillo groups in the various parishes where they lived. She was an active member and volunteer of the Skowhegan Sno-Hawks, the Village Improvement Association, and various school and church activities.

Mom/Meme enjoyed her family, which included members beyond her immediate family. She especially enjoyed holiday gatherings. Lucille is survived by her beloved husband of 70 years, Emile. She will be dearly missed by her children, their spouses and their families- Larry and Anne LaPlante of Hampden, ME, Wayne and Debi LaPlante of Mt. Home, ID, Diane LaPlante of Norwich, CT, Karen and TJ Restivo of Lisbon, CT, and Mike LaPlante of Rio Rancho, NM. She was Meme to 15 grandchildren and 19 great grandchildren. She was predeceased by her parents, sisters, Corinne Thebarge and Bernadette Meunier, as well as a brother, Richard Thebarge. She is survived by a brother, Phillip Thebarge, and sisters, Jeanette LaPlante and Mary Maxwell. She will be missed by her many sister in laws, brother in laws, nieces and nephews. A mass of Christian burial will be held Monday, May 15, 2017 at 11 AM at Notre Dame de Lourdes Church, Water St., Skowhegan, ME. Arrangements are under the care and direction of Smart & Edwards Funeral Home, 183 Madison Ave., Skowhegan, Maine. In lieu of flowers, contributions can be made to the Norridgewock Maine Historical Society and Museum, Mercer Road, Norridgewock, ME.
