He was predeceased by his parents Irvin & Isla (Nelson) Marshall of Omaha, NE.
Les, born in 1938, son to Irvin and Isla (Nelson) Marshall. He was a US Air Force Veteran where he was an AC&W Radar Repairman. Les married Irene Addie Williams on June 6, 1964, in Brownville, Maine. They lived in Saratoga Springs, NY, and Cape Elizabeth, ME, where they raised daughter Shawna and son Dean. He worked as a mainframe computer repairman for Burroughs Corporation and Casco Bank of Portland, ME, and repaired backup power systems for Computer Power Northeast. In 1998, Les and Irene moved to Rhode Island to be closer to their children and families before moving back to the Augusta, ME, area in 2015. There he enjoyed spending his retirement years with Irene in support of her sewing crafts and retail management career.
Les was always surrounded by many friends and family, enjoyed tinkering with electronics and cars, camping and fishing in their teardrop camper, antiquing, cake any time of day, a good lobster on the ocean, and adding to their extensive lighthouse collection. Known for his sarcastic razzing, homemade breads, and generous nature, he would drop anything he was doing to help someone in need. In his retirement years, he worked side by side with Irene on her sewing crafts business "Irene's Farm Creations" making unique bags, aprons, and many other sewn items that they have sold together at craft fairs on the Cape in Falmouth, MA, online, and their own artisan location at the United Farmers Market of Maine in Belfast every Saturday since 2022. In recent years, Les cut and sewed the bags on his own sewing machine side by side with Irene. Their products have been known as far as Alaska and Ireland.
Les had the personality to make friends no matter the situation and was a truly great man whose loss will be forever felt by his family and friends, who love him dearly. He was a selfless man whose passing left an unfillable gap in the hearts of his loved ones. His ability to sacrifice, provide, support, forgive, and love will be forever engrained in all he knew.
A celebration of life is being planned for family and friends in Augusta, ME, in early June. Interment with military honors will take place Thursday June 6th, 2024, at 1:00pm at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery - Committal Shelter located at 143 Blue Star Avenue, in Augusta, ME. The family will send details to all when final plans have been made.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that a memorial donation be made to the Kennebec Valley Humane Society animal shelter in supplies or memorial gifts.
