Leora “Micki” Ruth Scribner, 84 of Skowhegan passed away peacefully on Saturday May 26, 2012 with her loving family by her side at Cedar Ridge Center in Skowhegan. Micki was born in Solon on March 18, 1928, daughter of the late Ralph and Elvie (Spencer) McCarty. She attended Solon schools and graduated from Solon High School in 1945. She then graduated from Skowhegan Business School before working in various secretarial capacities – retiring as the Deputy Clerk of Courts for Somerset County in February of 1988. Micki and Harold L. Scribner were married on June 26, 1948 at the Togus pre-Civil War Chapel located on the Maine Veterans Administration Center Togus Campus. Micki and Harold first met while both were employed at the center. The use of the historic chapel for the marriage ceremony was authorized by a close friend, the late Colonel Malcolm Stoddard who was the director of the facility. While Harold was progressing up through the ranks of the Maine State Police, Harold and Micki lived in Augusta, North Windham, Windham, and North Berwick before finally settling in their home of nearly fifty years on Water Street in Skowhegan. Micki was an avid Red Sox fan for many years. During her lifetime she was a fabulous cook who loved to garden, enjoyed her Friday night card games with her friends, and treasured family gatherings and outings over the years. She cherished her beloved cat Cricket and valued the little Westie named Arnie for whom she so often “dog sat”. In addition to her parents, Micki is predeceased by her brother Robert McCarty and sisters Geraldine Wyman, Pauline Cyr, and Elizabeth Golden. She is survived by her husband of 63 years Harold of Skowhegan, her daughter Margaret “Peggy” Scribner and long time companion, Jon Wales of Skowhegan, her son David Scribner of Skowhegan, her grandson Reeve of Skowhegan and South Portland, her granddaughter Mary of Wasilla, Alaska, and great-grandchildren Rebecca and Jacob. She is also survived by sisters Shirley Harrington of Hyde Park, MA, Janet Strawmyer of Vernon, CT, Patricia Coro of N. Anson and brother Jack McCarty of E. Madison; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The family would like to express its sincere appreciation for the exceptional care provided by the staff, nurses and CNA’s at Cedar Ridge for the past two and a half years as well as the comfort and support provided by Beacon Hospice to Micki and the family. In Keeping with Micki’s wishes, a private graveside service will be held on the Friday June 15, 2012 at 12 p.m. at the Maine Veterans Memorial Cemetery in Augusta. In Lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Boston Red Sox Jimmy Fund, Dana-Farber Cancer Institute, P.O.
