Obituary

Skowhegan – Lawrence Irwin Hatch, 93, passed away peacefully on June 25, 2026, at Woodlawn Nursing Home in Skowhegan. He was born on February 22, 1933, in Harmony, the son of Nettie L. Hatch Maheux.

Lawrence spent the first part of his adult life in the Army as a military police officer. After retiring from the Army, he remained in the southeastern coastal states, where he worked in shoe retail sales and managed several stores. His final profession was in security, working at a museum, a hotel, and lastly, a library, all in Miami, Florida.

Lawrence was predeceased by his mother, Nettie L. Hatch Maheux, and his brothers, Robert J. Wentworth and Richard M. Wentworth. He leaves behind his sister, Henrietta Kruger and her husband, Hans; special nieces and nephew, Brenda Murray and her husband, Paul, Richard M. Wentworth, Jr. and his wife, Nicole, and Loretta McCarthy and her husband, Randy; many additional nieces and nephews; and a very special friend, Sandra Barry of Florida.

Lawrence will be laid to rest at Maine Veterans’ Memorial Cemetery, located at 143 Blue Star Ave. in Augusta. The burial will take place on Tuesday, August 11, at 9:00 AM.
