She grew up in Fairfield enjoying life on Silver St. and went to Mount Merci Academy. She enjoyed her summers in South Berwick with her grandparents and working at the Goldenrod on York Beach. Joyce then married the love of her life Dwayne Leonard Scanlin, and they had 6 beautiful children. Joyce developed her love of plants and flowers while working at Sunset Flowerland bringing the passion of flowers to her home and friends. She found happiness in life's simple beautiful things. Chrocheting, knitting, ceramics, crosswords, and quilting were some of her favorite passions. She proudly became a CA and loved taking care of people. Joyce loved her white cats, Albert, Mother Cat, and Nike. of all the titles she had, Mom and Mammy were her favorite. Some of her fondest memories with grandkids are playing Uno, Yahtzee, burnt toast with lots of butter, and Pennywise. She loved to scare people and in turn people loved to scare her back. She survived with Gunsmoke, Coca-Cola, and Oreos. Mammy shared her wisdom with her kids and grandkids, for example, always be kind, "do unto others as you want done to you". Joyce touched countless lives with her kind, direct words and her loving hands. She had a way of making people feel seen, cared for, and important. She was deeply loved not only by her family but also by her cherished second family at Lakewood where her presence will be profoundly missed. She had unique and special relationships with everyone there including Bree from Beacon Hospice, Cassie RN, Lara, Deb, Marie, Dee, Donna, Stephanie, Bonnie, Lise, Barb, and Liza, and the assistant manager, her confidant Laila because we all know Joyce was the real manager of Memory Lane.
