Obituary

Joseph L. R. Lefebvre, 89, of Benton Maine, leaped into the loving arms of his Savior, Jesus Christ, at Maine Veterans' Home in Augusta, on Thursday, January 8, 2026, with family by his side. Joe (locally known as Reggie) was the son of Hector and Rose Lefebvre (Breton) and was born in Waterville, Maine, on January 16, 1936. At 7 years old, he began serving as altar boy at Sacred Heart Catholic Church, and continued until he graduated from Waterville High School. He enlisted in the United States Air Force as Missile Electrical Technician, rising to the rank of Master Sergeant (E-8). He looked forward to retiring and, after 21 years of service, he returned to his beloved hometown of Waterville with his beautiful wife Sheila, and their five children. After securing a home for his family in Benton, he found employment with the United States Post Office, where he worked tirelessly for 20 more years, continuing to provide for them until his second retirement in 1996. The years after his final retirement, he was at liberty to enjoy his love of golfing, bowling, traveling with his wife and friends and bird watching. Joe's strong faith and devotion to God the Father was evident by the way he and his wife Sheila, led their family. Together they taught their children to love, honor and serve God, by loving their neighbor, as taught by Jesus. Joe never failed to offer thanksgiving for God's provisions for himself and for his family, and faithfully took them to the House of the Lord, to honor His Name. Joe is predeceased by sister, Sylvia Poulliot; son, Richard; son-in-law Rickey Casey and golfing buddies, Buzz Fernald, Ron "Rosie" Rossignol, and Richard "Mac" McDonald. Joe is survived by his wife, Sheila M. Lefebvre; daughter, Vicky Lefebvre; daughter-in-law, Ann M. Lefebvre; daughter, Deborah A. Casey; son, Thomas (Darlene) Lefebvre, and daughter Jacqueline (Brian) Stoneback; as well as many, many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Joe is also survived by his sister, RoseMarie Wilson; brother-in-law, Milton "Mickey" Poulliot; cousin Raymond (Yvonne) Lefebvre; friends and neighbors Brian and Jan Denis, and Dan and Estelle Quimby. A funeral mass will be held on Wednesday, January 21st at 10:00 a.m. at Notre Dame Church in Waterville, Maine. Please join us at a reception immediately following mass in the church hall. Burial will be held later in the Spring. Our family would like to extend a heartfelt "Thank you" to the day and night shift caregivers in Freedom Bay Charlie.
