Anson — John R. Fernald, a beloved husband, father, brother, and friend, passed away unexpectedly on September 3, 2026. Born on April 23, 1968, in Skowhegan, Maine, he was the son of Shaun A. Fernald and Ellen F. Fernald (Welch), both of whom predeceased him. His passing leaves a profound void in the hearts of his family and friends.

John’s life was defined by his unwavering love and devotion to his family and friends. He shared a wonderful life with his loving wife, Teri J. Fernald (Cowan). They married on July 4, 2014, after 25 devoted years together. Their son, Hunter J. Fernald, was John’s pride and joy.

John is survived by his wife, Teri; their son, Hunter, and his significant other, Brionna Ramsdell; his siblings, Shauna Hennigan (Fernald), Joel Fernald, Alexis Gordon, Kara Gordon, and Nick Gordon; and his aunts, nieces, and nephews.

A celebration of John’s life will be held at 2:00 p.m. on September 26, 2026, at the Madison VFW, located at 58 Preble Avenue in Madison.
