Fairfield - Joel Kristian Lewis, 53, of Fairfield, Maine, passed away on July 17th at his place of work. Joel knew his coworkers well and died with his friends and brother by his side.
Born on January 2nd, 1973, Joel grew up alongside three brothers and graduated from Lawrence High School in Fairfield. Growing up, he loved music and spending time with his brothers. He enjoyed building bicycles and making forts in the woods outside his house. In warmer weather, he often went cliff jumping at Smalls Falls and spent time at Thomas Point Beach. Most of all he enjoyed being outside; he chose to spend his summers catching and selling crayfish alongside his brothers.
After school, Joel worked as a concrete finisher at JMcCarthy Concrete. He was close with his coworkers and considered them his friends. He met his partner, Denise, in Waterville and the two settled down with a house in Fairfield and had three children. Joel was known to take the children out on the weekends to swim, fish, go on bike rides, and go to the playground. He was a dedicated father who emphasized being kind, adventurous, and genuine. Joel was known to his family as a hard worker, who put his kids in the wagon to go to the 4th of July parade every year and would be working on a new household project every summer.
In Joel’s later years, he loved collecting things he was interested in such as sports cards and Hot Wheels, taking photos of nature, going camping with his family, and spending time with his grandson. He will be remembered for his kindness and unrelenting willingness to help others, his storytelling that always made others laugh, and his fearlessness to speak his mind and stick up for those he loved. He was beloved by his family and will be deeply missed.
Joel is survived by his partner, Denise Cummings; his children, Joseph Cummings, Dominique Lewis, and Kassandra Lewis, and his grandson, Beckett Baker; his mother, Debra Hitchcock; his brothers and their spouses, Chad and Donna Lewis, Ryan and Karyn Lewis, and Brian and Meagan Littlefield; his nephews, Trevor and Tyler Lewis and his nieces, Alexis Lewis and Atlas Littlefield.
He was predeceased by his grandparents, Colleen and Bill Morris; his father, Dale Lewis; and his stepfather, Ken Littlefield.
Services will be held on Saturday, August 1st, 2026 at 2:00pm at Somerset Valley Remembrance Center located at 19 Washburn Lane in Skowhegan.
