Hallowell - Janita Sue Marks, 60, passed unexpectedly on Tuesday, July 9, 2024. Janita was born in Toledo, Ohio, on March 13, 1964, the daughter of the late James W. and Joyce E. (Eshleman) Marks. She graduated from Martin Spalding High School in Severn, Maryland. Jan worked for the government for several years as an Administrative Assistant in Washington, D.C. Upon her relocation to Maine, Jan served her community, helping local families through her work with WIC, the Coastal Community Action Program, and Penquis. Growing up, Jan was an active member of the First Presbyterian Church of Annapolis, Maryland. While residing in Tenants Harbor, Maine, Jan frequently attended and helped at a few of the local churches in the area. Jan had a kind and caring heart. She enjoyed cooking, loved her cat Teddy, and took great joy in photographing and spending time with her family. She was an avid bird watcher, loved collecting feathers, making puzzles, and cherished Rock and Roll, especially Stevie Nicks' music. She also loved being on the ocean. Jan is predeceased by her parents, James and Joyce Marks. Jan is survived by her son Dylan Dodd of Winslow, brother James Marks of North Carolina, niece Marisa Marks, nephew Camden Marks, and uncle Steven Marks. To honor her wishes, there will be no public service. Jan will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved her.
