North Anson – Glenn "Steb" Stephen Viles, 78, passed away peacefully at home on October 24th, 2025, with his loving family by his side. Glenn was born on September 23rd, 1947, the son of Robert Glenn and Helen Smith Viles in Skowhegan.
It was with relief and happiness that he graduated from Anson Academy in North Anson in the Class of 1966. He then began his favorite job of his lifetime by working for his father with the historic Kennebec Log Driving Company where he was one of the few remaining dedicated workers. His love for the Log Drive began at the age of eight when he would go with his father who was the last "Master Driver" in the continental United States when the 141-year-old drive was forced to end for debatable reasons in 1976. Soon after he went to work at the Anson Water District in North Anson for William Hartwell. In 1983, he bought a skidder and went to work in the woods business. He incorporated his company, Glenn S. Viles & Sons, in 1986.
Glenn was known for his quick wit, sense of humor, commons sense wisdom and love of family. He married the love of his life, Claudia Grace Dunton, on September 16th, 1971, and their 54-year love story began!
He was predeceased by both his parents, brother Daniel Robert Viles, son Michael Viles and daughter Jana Viles.
Glenn is survived by his wife Claudia; his son Daniel Viles; younger sister Mary Jane; six grandchildren; seven great-grandchildren; special nieces and nephews; in-laws Deana Dunton and Sharon and Larry Livingston; and a multitude of friends, family and coworkers who called or came to visit those last two weeks.
The family would like to thank the doctors and nurses at the RFGH in Skowhegan and Beacon Hospice for their care and wonderful support.
Glenn's service will be held on November 6th, 2025, at 10:00am, at the North Anson Congregational Church located at 21 Elm St.
