New Portland - Gilbert Reginald Taylor, 75, passed away unexpectedly on January 8th, 2024, while working in the woods doing what he loved. Gilbert was born on November 14th, 1948, in Farmington, Maine, son to Eleanor (Wendall) and Reginald Taylor.
As a young man Gilbert served his country with pride in Vietnam, then came home to serve his hometown of North New Portland. He continued serving others as the town's road commissioner for many years, owned and operated G.R. Taylor and Sons Logging and T&T Services. He was a member of the Lions Club, a lifetime member of the VFW, and a huge part of the operations of the New Portland Fair truck pulls.
He loved to race snowmobiles as a young man and hunt and fish with his children and grandchildren. He enjoyed spending time at camp with his family and friends, as well as traveling and adventuring. Over the years he was known as the "go to guy" if anyone needed help in town, from fixing your residence, to your roads, or to be your emotional support. Gilbert will be deeply missed by those who know him.
He was predeceased by his parents Reginald and Eleanor Taylor as well as his grandson Caleb Roy.
Gilbert was survived by his loving wife Rebecca Taylor; daughter Angela with husband Allen Roy, son Asa Taylor with partner Kasey McCarthy, and son Ashely Taylor; greatly adored grandchildren Sumner, Kegan, Rowdy, Wilder Taylor, Courtney Morton, Jason Hart, RJ, and Mike Roy; along with all his great-grandchildren.
