Hallowell - Gerald Merton Spillman, born August 23, 1946, in Augusta, Maine died unexpectedly August 8, 2023, at his home in Hallowell, Maine. Jerry, also known as Mert, was two weeks from his 77th birthday and had been battling Parkinson’s Disease for a decade. The first of three children, he was predeceased by his parents, Otis and Evelyn Dunn Spillman.

A 1965 graduate of The American School in Tehran, Iran, Jerry was a fixture on the school basketball, fastpitch softball, track, swimming, and tennis teams. After high school he earned his bachelor’s degree in marketing at the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg. He remained active skiing mostly at Sugarloaf and Sunday River, playing tennis, golf, bowling and fishing into his mid-seventies in addition to painting dozens of landscapes. The son of a career Army man, Jerry had a nomadic work history mostly in sales and restaurant management in New Orleans, Cheyenne, Denver, the Mississippi Gulf Coast, and mid Maine.

Jerry is survived by his brother and wife, Wayne and Donna Spillman, sister Janis and husband Richard Spellman, nephew Adam Spillman and nieces Ashley and Paige Spellman, along with three glorious aunts and dozens of cousins. No public service is planned.
