Athens – Gareth Henry Gilman, 83, passed away peacefully at home in his sleep on March 24, 2024. Gareth was born on March 25, 1940, to Clarence F. and Marion I. (Rode) Gilman. He graduated from the Athens Somerset Academy in 1959 and later that year enlisted in the United States Air Force, where he proudly served our country for 8 years stationed in various places (SSgt). After the Air Force he resided in Texas where he worked for General Dynamics, Safeway Grocery Company, and then retired from H.E.B. Grocery Company. After retirement he moved back to his hometown in Maine. He was predeceased by both his parents, brother Ronnie, and his brother-in-law Bill. Gareth is survived by three children, Barbara, Andy, and Tammy; two grandchildren, Monica and Daniel; two great-grandchildren, Christian and Gavin; two sisters, Rhonda and Gloria; sister-in-law Rowena; and several nephews, nieces, and cousins. A graveside Service will be held at the Mt. Rest Cemetery in Athens on July 13, 2024, at 2:00pm.
