Obituary

Harmony – Florence E. (Scribner) LaGross, 93, while a resident at Tissue's Country Estate in Athens, passed away at Redington Fairview General Hospital in Skowhegan, with family by her side. Florence was born in New Portland, on July 6, 1931, and adopted by Clyde and Calla Scribner of Athens. In her early years, Florence worked as a telephone operator in Skowhegan and Dover Foxcroft. For many years she also worked as a cook at Tissues Country Estate in Athens. Florence was a long- time member of the First Baptist Church of Harmony. She donated funds, supplies, and time to various animal shelters, though her heart was truly drawn to Mountain's in Corinna. Florence is fondly remembered for her love of card playing, gardening, baking, animals, crossword puzzles, Charles Wysocki puzzles, Betty Neels books, and ice cream! In the summer, she was always up for a ride to Skowhegan for orange pineapple ice cream. Evenings she could often be found playing Hand and Foot and Spades with relatives, friends, children, and grandchildren. Florence was a fabulous baker. Her cookies, whoopie pies, fudge, and scotch bars were a delight to devour. She was predeceased by both her parents, her husband Leroy A. LaGross, Jr., sister Viola York, and brother Carleton Scribner. Florence is survived by her son Mark LaGross with his wife Connie of Pittsfield; her daughter Pamela LaGross of Pittsfield; grandchildren Gabrielle LaGross of Bangor, Sarah LaSalle of Pittsfield, Austin Cabral of Dade City, FL, Taylor Cabral of Tampa, FL, and Micah Cabral of Astatula, FL; and one great-grandchild Elizabeth Smith of Pittsfield. In the summer, both Florence and Leroy's wishes will be honored with scattering of their ashes and burial of their combined remaining ashes at Libby Cemetery in Harmony. The family would like to recognize the staff and administration of Tissues Country Estate and the nurses and doctors at Redington Fairview Hospital during her final days for their genuine loving care of our mother.
