Obituary

Cannan - Everett Martin Albertson, 75, passed away unexpectedly from a long battle with COPD and Heart Failure on January 23, 2024. Everett (Marty) was born on June 25, 1948, the son of Charles and Gwendolyn Albertson, and grew up in the Skowhegan area. Everett was a 1968 graduate of Skowhegan High School in Skowhegan, ME. Everett started working in the Laborers Union for several years then moved up to the Carpenter/Millwrights Union Local 1996. Marty, as he was known by those close to him, was a giving man. Whether wisdom, skills, tools, possessions, or finances Marty was always willing to share with friends and family alike. Whether it was the outdoorsman skills he shared with his youngest Shane and grandson Gage or the open arms he met his eldest grandson Colton with when Shane and his first wife had met. Marty held a special kinship with each of his grandchildren even if they weren't blood as with his later grandchildren Gracie, whom him and his wife Shirley took care of from infancy during the day or his newest grandchildren Teagan, Kanoa, Jeremy, and Maleea, the children of his soon to be daughter-in-law Rechelle. Each and every person in Marty's life was special to him in their own way and even through his hardheaded nature he dearly loved every one of them even those not mentioned here by name. In the earlier years of Marty's old age, he spent many mornings at his nephew, Charles III's or "Little Billy" as he's known by those in the family, garage in Canaan standing with a warm cup of coffee and plenty of opinions to share. His evenings were often spent with his dear wife of 53 years, Shirley, in the comfort of their home or even visiting his sister Sandra just down the road. Summer evenings were likely spent with his Grandson Gage down at the lake on his favorite corner to catch bass. The colder months nearing hunting season were spent again with Gage in his tree stand on his brother Lesley's land searching for the perfect buck to add to the picture book. He was predeceased by his parents Charles and Gwendolyn Albertson; his half-brother Wayne McFarland, and his eldest son Chad whom he will be buried with. Everett is survived by his wife Shirley Albertson of Canaan; son Shane and his fiancé Rechelle; grandsons Colton and Gage Albertson of Canaan; his sister Sandra and her husband David; his brother Charles II and his wife Rebecca; his younger brother Lesley and his wife Brenda; and his many new grandchildren, nephews, nieces, cousins and friends. For those willing to share their favorite moments of their own experiences with Marty may do so at his celebration of life on February 3rd, 2024, at 11:00am, at North Vassalboro Baptist Church in Vassalboro, Maine. Friends wishing to make donations in his memory to preserve the skills taught to his sons, grandsons, nephews, and more may do so to the Skowhegan Sportsman's Club, P.O. Box 291, Skowhegan, Maine 04976.
