The Man, The Myth, The Legend, Edward "Ted" Cooley, 84, of Jackman lost his battle to lung cancer, Saturday April 10, 2021 peacefully with family by his side at home. Ted was born and raised in Wellington, Maine, the son of Mary (Bennett) Cooley and Ray Cooley on March 25, 1937. Ted went in the army for 3 years. When Ted got out, he was a jack-of-all-trades. From working in a mill to working in the woods. Ted had been married a couple times before meeting Sheala. Ted and Sheala lived in Athens for many years before moving to Jackman. Ted and Sheala loved to night hunt. They loved keeping the game wardens on their toes! Ted loved nature and the outdoors...Ted was quite the fisherman and knew where all the honey holes were. When he could not get the fish to bite, he would throw dynamite into the water and catch the fish with a net when they floated to the surface. Ted also thought cutting bear's throats with his pocketknife was cool. He was braver and stronger than any man we knew. He would do anything for his friends and family. Ted was predeceased by his mom and dad, brothers and sisters, son, daughter, best friend Granny, and his lifelong love Sheala. Ted is survived by his children, Melody Avery and husband Les of Waterville, Cynthia McKenney and husband Patrick of Athens, Mary Brown and husband Dwayne of Athens, Billi-Jo Cluney and husband James of Brooks, Edward Cooley and wife Becky of Athens, Charles Curtis and wife Annette of Skowhegan, Chad Curtis and girlfriend of Skowhegan; many grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. We will be having a double graveside service for Ted and Sheala with a celebration of life to follow at a later date.
