Dorothy O. Abbott, 87, of Canaan passed away peacefully after a long illness on Monday October 9,2023, at Edgewood Rehabilitation and Living Cener with family and friends by her side. Dorothy "Dot" Abbott was born in Stambaugh, Michigan on February 12, 1936, to George and Dorothy (Lebeau) Longhurst. She was educated in Michigan Schools. On April 19, 1954, she married the love of her life Carl Abbott Sr. They remained happily married for 54 years until Carl's passing on September 23, 2008. Dot, as she was affectionately known, was a laborer and dedicated employee at Solon Manufacturing for over 30 years. She enjoyed flowers, birds, camping, and spending time with family and friends. She was a great baker, making sure to always have a batch of cookies on hand for any visitors that may stop by. Dorothy was a loving and caring wife, mother, grandmother, aunt, and friend. Dorothy was predeceased by her husband, Carl Abbott Sr., brother Dough Longhurst, son Wayne Abbott, grandson Allen Howell, daughter in-law Leona Abbott, and granddaughter Leslie Householder. She is survived by her children; Carl Abbott Jr. with wife Lorna of Cornville, Naomi (Abbott) Darling with husband Jeremy of Groton Vermont, Eric Abbott with wife Terrie of Winterport, Albert Abbott with wife Jenny of Livermore Falls, daughter in-law Kathy Abbott of Waterville, several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. Her love for her family will be cherished by us all. Graveside service will be held at Canaan Fairview Cemetery on Saturday November 4, 2023, at 11:00 AM with Reverend Mark Tanner officiating. After the service a gathering will be held at the Canaan Fire Department for all those who wish to attend.
