Obituary

Donald James Pryor Benton, Maine With profound sadness, yet unwavering faith in God's plan, we announce the passing of Donald James Pryor on Monday April 27, 2026, at MaineGeneral Hospital in Augusta, Maine with his son and daughter by his side. Donald was born in Santa Rosa, CA on May 3, 1932 the beloved son of the late Othel Pryor and Creda (Hamlin) Pryor. Throughout his long and meaningful life, he was a devoted husband, loving father, proud grandfather and great-grandfather, trusted friend, and a steady source of kindness and encouragement to all who knew him. Through hard work, determination, and God's grace, Don built not only a successful photography business in Central Maine, The Pryor Studio, but also a lasting legacy rooted in generosity, curiosity, humor, and deep love for his family. He embraced life with enthusiasm and wonder well into his final days, always eager to learn and adapt in a fast-changing world. Whether flying drones, capturing everyday moments with his GoPro, or sharing photos online of every bird and squirrel outside his home, Don found joy in the simple beauty of life and delighted in sharing it with others. Don proudly served his country in the U.S. Army, dedicated countless hours volunteering at Thayer Hospital, and enjoyed many days on the golf course. Yet of all the roles he held in life, none meant more to him than being Marlene's husband. Together, united by their enduring faith in God, they built a life centered on love, family, and service to others. Married in 1959, they shared over 60 wonderful years together and became both the foundation of their family and a cherished part of their community. Don was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Marlene Pryor; his daughters, Debra Haske and Kathy Pryor; and his grandson, Michael Poulin. Through each hardship, his steadfast faith and the love of his family carried him forward, and it brings comfort to know he is now reunited with those he loved so dearly. He is survived by his son, James Pryor; his daughter, Donna Wilson; his son-in-law, Greg Wilson; his grandsons, Luc Poulin, Daniel Wilson, and Justin Pryor and spouse Abbie Moore; his granddaughters, Juli Bearce and spouse Jayson Bearce, Amanda Poulin, and Danielle Poulin; his great-grandchildren, Olivia Skye and Phoenix; and many extended family members and dear friends who will continue to cherish his memory. The family would like to thank Tammy from Assistance Plus, Donald's caretaker for many years, for the dedicated care and enjoyable company she provided him. Don's life was a testament to faith, perseverance, compassion, and joy. He will be deeply missed and lovingly remembered by all whose lives he touched. There will be no visiting hours. The funeral will be held on Saturday, May 30th 11:00 a.m. at the Lutheran Church of the Resurrection, 36 Cool St., Waterville, Maine.
