Derek Joseph 'The Hawks' Doyon passed away May 11, 2023 unexpectedly, but peacefully at his home.
Derek was born Jan. 23, 1978 to Norm and Pam Doyon.
Growing up as a child in Winslow, Maine, Derek could often be found playing baseball, watching the Red Sox, harassing his four sisters, collecting baseball cards and kicking back, relaxing while watching Smokey and the Bandit on repeat. In high school, Derek worked for the local IGA grocery store and when he wasn't working, he would often be umpiring youth baseball games and cruising the streets in some sort of fast car - Mustangs were always his favorite vehicle!
After high school, Derek attended Thomas College in Waterville. Derek went on to work at T-Mobile, quickly rising through the ranks and becoming a beloved member of the T-Mobile workforce for over 16-years, both as a trainer and team leader (coach).
Throughout those years, Derek formed many close friendships, made an incredible amount of people laugh with his unique sense of humor and helped countless co-workers both on the clock and off the clock.
When Derek wasn't working he enjoyed playing poker, blackjack, playing darts, watching the Red Sox, listening to tunes and just having fun chatting with and spending time with friends and family. And let's not forget coffee…Derek loved his black coffee - the stronger the better!
Derek was also a huge fan of standup comedy and if you were lucky enough to know Derek - there is no doubt you have heard him quote some of his favorite one liners. Derek also had many of his own hilarious one liners and quick witted jokes that could bring you to tears with laughter.
Derek was incredibly smart and he would always let you know it. He was sarcastic, funny, witty and genuinely a good person with a beautiful soul and wonderful heart. He loved people and he loved to make them smile. He was good at it. He was an amazing friend, a loving brother, an incredible co-worker and great son. He will sadly be missed by so many.
Derek is survived by his mother, Pam Doyon; father Norm Doyon; sisters; April Doyon and fiance Lawrence Gillis; Melissa Doyon and Partner Marie Bolduc; Becky Doyon; Julie Boyce and wife Darlene Boyce; his niece Aviana Boyce; his 'brother from another mother' Chris 'Jemus' Veilleux; and several aunts, uncles, great uncles and cousins.
A gathering to celebrate Derek's life will be held from 11 to 1 p.m. on Saturday, June 17th at the Waterville Elks Club, 76 Industrial St., Waterville.
If you would like to wear attire that reflects the things that Derek loved that would greatly be appreciated. Red Sox, Green Bay Packers, Music, Poker and T-Mobile Swag.
