Madison, Maine Dalton Joseph Landry passed away May 11, 2023 after a hard fought battle with cancer.
Dalton was born in Skowhegan, Maine on September 12, 1952; he was the son of Bernard "Bonhome" C. Landry and Geneva T. (Jarvis) Landry. He attended the Madison schools and was a graduate of Madison Memorial High School, class of 1970.
He worked as a carpenter and contractor. Dalton learned the craft from his father. He worked for a period of time in and around Carver, Massachusetts. Returning to Madison he worked there for a number of years before moving to Portland, Maine. He resided in Portland for a number of years working independently and for other contractors. While in Portland, he also managed an apartment block on Free Street. Dave Johnson often said Dalton was the best 'damn' framer he had ever seen. In his younger days, Dalton was an avid motorcyclist and was proud of his trip to Sturgis and his ride across the USA. An avid fisherman and outdoorsman, he loved his growing up years on the Kennebec River, often referring to the river as his childhood playground. The following was found folded in his wallet: "My footsteps carried me away, but in my mind I always was going home. My earliest memories remembered are always the best. Most thought of was and always will be Maple Street growing up, when Mama would hum 'Amazing Grace' while hanging out the clothes."
Dalton was predeceased by his father Bernard C. Landry. He is survived by his mother Geneva (Jean) Landry; two children, Danielle Rubin of Carver, MA and Justin "Bub" Landry of Madison; his brothers Dallas Landry (Brenda Stevens) of New Portland; Dalmon (Brittany) Landry of Oakland, Dwayne "Arlo" Landry of Madison, Darlene (Bruce) Santoro of Madison and Darryl Landry of Madison. He is also survived by four grandchildren, as well as many nieces and nephews.
As requested by Dalton, there will be no services or celebration of life. The family would like to thank hospice for all of the kindness and caring and assistance in Dalton's final days. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in Dalton's name to Skowhegan Animal Shelter, 123 Middle Road, Skowhegan, ME 04976, where Dalton's long time companion cat, Kitty Kat has been placed.
