Colleen Littlefield Jones, 86, of Bangor, Maine, peacefully departed this world to join her family members in Heaven on May 9, 2026, after a short illness. Born to Dora and Lloyd Littlefield on March 3, 1940, Colleen grew up on Maple View Orchards with her younger sister, "Dodie," in Newport, Maine. Colleen graduated from Newport High School in 1958 and from Colby College in 1962 with a degree in French language and writing. She earned her Master of Science Degree in Education from the University of Maine in 1972. Colleen was a gifted, tireless, and caring educator, with a career that spanned over four decades. She began teaching high-school French at Gould Academy in Bethel, Maine, in 1962 before moving to the Skowhegan School District in 1964, where she taught French at the elementary, junior-high, and high-school levels until 1973, when her son, Aaron, was born. In 1978 she returned to full-time teaching as a Special Education Teacher at Nokomis Regional High School in Newport. In 1987 she moved to Lawrence High School in Fairfield, where she taught until her retirement in 2005, working as both a Special Education Teacher and Consultant. She was a member of the Maine Education Association, the National Education Association, the Maine Support Network for Rural Special Education, the Council for Exceptional Children, and the Learning Disabilities Association of Maine. Following her retirement, she became an active member of the Hospice Volunteers of Somerset County, earning a commendation from the State of Maine's 128th Legislature as "Volunteer of the Year (Hospice)" in 2018. Colleen spent her happiest days along the shores of Maine lakes and coast, especially at the family camps at Embden Pond, Moosehead Lake, and Sebasticook Lake. She was an avid reader, formidable card player, and a keen traveler. At Christmastime, she enjoyed making batches of confections and then sharing them with many. She was a loyal mother, daughter, sister, and friend, regularly checking in with her loved ones with a well-timed telephone call or a greeting card. She was also a significant motherly presence to many young people throughout her life. Colleen was predeceased by her parents; husbands William G. Jones and Bernard C. Conner; her son, Aaron Lloyd Jones; brothers-in-law Malcolm E. Jones and J. Paul "Tippy" Curtis; cousins Kirk F. Littlefield and Arlene "Muffin" Brosig. She is survived by her sister, Dolores "Dodie" Curtis; niece Sarah Curtis; nephews Marc (Susan) Curtis and Eric (Evelyn) Curtis; numerous grandnieces and grandnephews as well as a number of great-grandnieces and great-grandnephews; cousins Marilyn Nutter Monroe, Betsy (Mike) Parker, Jane Nutter Sellers, Roger (Ann) Nutter, Helene Page, Hedy Blauvelt, Keith Page, Brenda Littlefield (Ted) Crabtree, and Craig (Sheri) Littlefield. She is also survived by Kyle Timothy Blood (Dean Perry), with whom she had a special lifetime bond, and Lisa Marie Benedetti (Paul Black), who was blessed to call Colleen her "other mother" for nearly fifty years. A Celebration of Life will be held Sunday, June 28, 2026, at 1:00 p.m. at T&B's Celebration Center, 414 Madison Avenue, Skowhegan.
