Oakland – Charles "Rick" Richard Philpot, 74, while resting comfortably passed away on September 14th, 2025, at the Togus VA Medical Center. Rick was born on October 15th, 1950, in Farmington, son to Allen and Alberta (Shrum) Philpot. He attended trade schools and followed his father's example to enlist and serve our country in the US Navy as a Gunner's Mate Seaman from June of 1969 to December of 1970.
Rick was a carpenter by trade, an adventurer and frontier pioneer in spirit, an eccentric philosopher of his own designs. He loved his country but disliked authority. He was a pure romantic and loved his family with every ounce of his being. His soul was as wild as the woods he grew up in and many of his happiest memories were fishing, camping and hunting in the woods of Maine. He was such a storyteller and would often exaggerate. But his life was rich with real experience.
He was predeceased by his father Allen Philpot, brother Edward Philpot, sister Connie Quimby, niece Jessica Philpot, nephew Andrew McCoy and longtime friend Mishuan Goeman.
Rick is survived by his mother Alberta Philpot; daughter Erica Philpot; sons Joshua Philpot and Mark Messer; granddaughters Olivia, Kailynn, Britt, Mckenzy, Breanna, Lacie; grandsons Darren, Ryan, Kalob, Devon and Brayden; great-granddaughters Elva, Quinn and Kaya; siblings Rob and Rebecca; nieces Tara, Betsy, Susan, Marissa and Ashley; and nephews Jed, Todd, Ben, Caleb and Jake.
A Graveside Service will be held for family and close friends at Sunset Cemetery in North Anson on Saturday, September 27th, 2025, at 11:00am followed by a Celebration of Life at New Hope Church in Solon at 11:45am.
The family would like to thank the efforts and kindness of all the hospice staff at Togus VA and Debbie of MaineGeneral homecare.
