Obituary

Cecil Orlando Dow - A Life Well-Lived Starks, Maine – Cecil Orlando Dow, 83, of Starks, Maine, passed away peacefully on Monday, June 9, 2025, at the VA Togus Hospice Center in Augusta, Maine. Born in Albion, Maine on December 29, 1941, to Edwin C. and Evelyn G. (Akers) Dow, Cecil was a proud graduate of Madison High School, Class of 1960, where he earned the title of Football MVP in 1959. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force from November 10, 1965, to November 7, 1969, stationed in Spokane, Washington, as an Airframe Repair Specialist, diligently working on B-52s and KC-135s and achieving the rank of SSgt. A dedicated farmer throughout his life, Cecil also contributed his skills to North Anson Reel, Hearten Tannery, Morgan Lumber, and retired from Huhtamaki at the age of 70. He was a committed member of the Madison community, belonging to the American Legion Post 39 and the Madison Grange, and regularly found solace and fellowship at Shawmut Chapel and Oakland-Sidney United Methodist Church. Cecil found joy in simple pleasures: a lively game of cribbage, passionately cheering on Madison High School sports, and cherished companionship with his countless lifelong friends, and cherished family. He was predeceased by his parents, Edwin and Evelyn Dow. Cecil is survived by his brother Mervin and wife Celia Dow; nephews Matthew L. and wife Sarah Dow with their sons Joshua and Joseph Dow, and Mark Dow with his sons Anthony and Nathan Dow; and cherished family Betty Dow with her children Norma Duprey, Tony Duprey, Lenard Duprey, and Michael Cates, and also sons Peter and Hanky. He delighted in gatherings with his extended family, including Phillip, Sr. and wife Janet Dow with their sons Phillip Dow, Jr., Jason Dow, Andrew Dow, Matthew G. Dow, and Tim Dow, with their families; his dear friends Donna Vintinner, Brian and wife Tammy Ames, with their families; and lifelong friends Bill Quimby, Albert Lock, and Billy Lynds. He was beloved by countless families and friends, and by the community, leaving a lasting impact on all who knew him. A memorial service will be held at Somerset Valley Remembrance Center, 19 Washburn Lane, Skowhegan, Maine 04976 on June 30, 2025, from 10:00 am to 1:00 pm, including a reception and a light lunch to celebrate Cecil's life.
