Obituary

Auburn: On the evening of January 11, 2024, Carolyn Ella "Stock" Johnson, age 73, of Auburn, ME, peacefully entered into eternal life with family by her side. While her family and friends mourn her loss, we are joyous that she is with her Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, for Eternity. Born on February 6, 1950, in Staten Island, New York, Carolyn was the 4th and youngest child of Kenneth and Myrtle "Finn" Stock. At the age of 6, the family moved from New Jersey to Princeton, Maine, and there she spent many blessed years making wonderful memories and lifelong friends. In 1967, she participated in the St. Croix Valley Junior Miss Pageant. Carolyn was a member of the school newspaper staff and graduated from Princeton High School in 1968 with scholastic honors in her favorite subject, history. She received a full scholarship to attend the University of Maine in Orono, though decided to pursue other interests after attending for one semester. On May 15, 1971, at the age of 21, Carolyn married Jerry Johnson. In her late twenties, she had the first of two sons, Kyle, followed three years later by son, Brooks. For many years Carolyn worked at the Calvary Temple church and the Temple Academy school (where her children attended) in Waterville as an administrative assistant. During her time at the school, she mentored and counseled countless kids of all ages through predicaments, self-inflicted or beyond their control, using her humor and kindness to help unburden those she consoled. After her time at the school and church, she worked as a bookkeeper, alongside her mother Myrtle, at the Salvation Army in Waterville continuing her call to work in the service of others. Carolyn devoted her life to God and had unwavering faith and spirituality which enabled her to mentor to many throughout the years. She had a generous, kind, and caring spirit and was a friend to all. Nothing meant more to Carolyn than her family and friends, and she treated her friends like family. Carolyn had a powerful singing voice and often sung at the Calvary Temple church where she and her family attended for many years. Although Carolyn wasn't known for her punctuality, she was known for wearing her heart on her sleeve, always seeing the good in people and could be counted on to provide a warm smile and a listening ear. When Carolyn was diagnosed with Parkinson's she knew parts of her life would be taken from her, but she always remained positive and continued to be a source of comfort for so many. Even her time spent in the nursing home she felt called to advocate for those that could not advocate for themselves. "They forget I can still hear everything" she would say. She was loving, gentle, loyal, thoughtful, funny, and had a beautiful soul and smile. She will be greatly missed but always thought of fondly and loved. In later years Carolyn enjoyed spending time with her grandchildren, playing card and board games, visiting with friends, going out to eat, watching movies, the company of cats, and Dunkin Donuts coffee. Carolyn is preceded in death by her parents Kenneth and Myrtle Stock, as well as her brothers Richard and Ronald Stock. She is survived by her brother Kenneth Stock with wife Cynthia; her two sons: Kyle Johnson with wife Traci and granddaughters Vivian and Audrey, and Brooks Johnson with wife Victoria and grandson Christopher; niece Veronica Collins; nephews Devin and Brian Stock, Matthew Madore, Matthew Cronin; along with many beloved cousins and friends. A Celebration of Life will be held on Saturday, January 27 between the hours of 11am to 2pm at the St. Bridget Center, 864 Main St, Vassalboro, ME 04989. In lieu of flowers, memorials in Carolyn's name may be made to the American Parkinson Disease Association at www.apdaparkinson.org or the Salvation Army at https://give-do.salvationarmy.org/give .
