Winslow, ME – Bruce Edward Palmer, 64, passed away at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta after a long battle with pulmonary fibrosis on Thursday, April 24, 2025, with dear family and close friends by his side.
Bruce was born in Waterville, ME on November 16, 1960, the son of Frederick Palmer and Eunice Palmer (Martin). He attended Lawrence High School and graduated in 1979 and later received a bachelor's degree from the University of Maine and a master's degree in education from Grand Canyon University.
Throughout his life, Bruce wore many hats. He began his career as a farmer in Albion. He was then a firefighter for Waterville Fire and Rescue and a security guard at SAPPI. He finished his career serving the next generation as a cottage parent at Good Will Hinckley and then as a behavioral special education teacher at Hinckley, Somerset Valley Middle School, and later the Bangor school system.
He went by many names, Bruce, Brucey, Palmer, Farma Pahmah, friend, uncle, brother, son, and most importantly, Dad. He loved country music and classic rock. He and friends were known to listen to rock at full blast while having a few beverages and solving the world's problems during their chats. He was good at everything, with an uncanny ability to figure out how to fix anything. Watching sports was one of his favorite hobbies. While eventually a Patriots fan, his favorite player of all time was Joe Namath. He loved to fish, particularly with Brayden. They would go to Harlow Pond, by the dam in Benton, and everywhere in between to try to find the best fishing spots. Chase has fond memories of him with his hands up on the rollercoasters at Six Flags, always insisting they go around one more time. What a wonderful man he was to so many, and what an impact he made on so many lives.
He was predeceased by his parents, Frederick and Eunice Palmer, his niece, Emily Blair, his great friend Bruce Roderick, and his elder son's mother, Lisa Palmer.
He is survived by his elder son Chase Palmer and his wife Carla Tyce of Winslow, his younger son Brayden Palmer and his mother Dawn Lesperance of Canaan, his partner Laurie Brown of Benton, his siblings Cindy Blair of Waterville, Sheila Palmer of Winslow, Sally and Randy Reynolds of Old Orchard Beach, Rick and Debbie Palmer of Beaver Cove, many nieces and nephews, and his close friends Bill Veilleux, Bill Gordon, and JD Littlefield.
A memorial to commemorate his life will be held at Good Will Hinckley inside Prescott Hall at 16 Prescott Drive, Hinckley, ME, 04944 on Saturday, May 10, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. and a reception thereafter. He will then be buried at Brown Cemetery in Benton. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to Good Will Hinckley.
The family would like to thank the incredible staff at Maine General Medical Center for their exceptional care.
