Canaan - Brian Arthur Scanlon, 76, died peacefully November 30th, 2024, at Redington Fairview Hospital, in Skowhegan. Brian was born on March 29, 1948, in Hartford Connecticut, son to Arthur and Catherine (McCormack) Scanlon.
As a person in recovery for 40 years, he touched the lives of many, both professionally as an alcohol and drug counselor with the State of Maine, and personally, for others to achieve recovery and sobriety. Brian was a skilled woodworker and a dry-stone mason. He designed and built his home on his beloved land, a place where he savored his solitude and had a loving respect for nature and the organic world. With his wry sense of humor and wide read knowledge base, he could coax the intellect in us to join him in varied and interesting conversations, be it, sharing a mechanical or woodworking project; a book, music, or podcasts that inspired him; or philosophical and spiritual assessments of living life.
He was predeceased by his parents, brother Michael Scanlon, and half-brother Raymond Campbell.
Brian is survived by his sisters, Kathleen Harris and Janice Stringos, brother-in-law Gus Stringos, and many nieces and nephews.
A celebration of life will be held at a later date.
