NEWPORT - Brenda "Susie" S. Vittum, age 72, left this world on Oct. 29, 2025, surrounded by family after a long battle with illness. She was born in Hartland on Dec. 13, 1952, the middle child of Donald E. and Rennie D. (Tidwell) Nichols. She grew up in Hartland and was a graduate of Nokomis High School. She worked in electronics at Edwards in Pittsfield until her retirement. She married Richard "Buddy" Vittum on Oct. 24, 1975, in Newport. They shared a wonderful life until his passing in August 2006. Anyone who met Brenda most likely never forgot her. She was one of a kind. Her sense of humor was unparalleled. She had a love for animals all shapes and sizes. She also enjoyed long drives, shopping and the occasional trip to play slots. She was predeceased by her parents Donald and Rennie; husband Richard; brothers Gerald and Donald; and a nephew, Duane. She is survived by daughter Julie and her longtime partner Nathan Later; granddaughter Xevlynn Later; sisters Carrie Anne Nadeau and husband Duane and Donna Doody and husband Pat, as well as several nephews and nieces.
