Skowhegan - Avis M. Collins, 86, passed away with her family by her side on Sunday, December 24, 2023. Avis, the youngest of nine children, was born on May 14, 1937, daughter to William and Laura Avery of Athens Maine. Avis lived a fulfilling life as a mother, wife, grandmother, partner, and friend. Avis loved dancing with friends and especially her partner Wayne. Avis was predeceased by her former husbands Robert Lessard and Ralph Collins II, infant daughter Linda Collins, granddaughter Jessika Collins-Withee, and long-term partner Wayne Dodge. Avis will be lovingly remembered by her children Roberta Lessard, Mary Lessard and her partner Jon Elliot, Ralph Collins III and his wife Myrtle, Donald Collins, Marlene Griffin and her husband Edward Griffin, and Avis Collins and her partner Greg Smith; grandchildren Kendal, Kristen, Forrest, Ashley, and Seth; great-grandchildren Gunner, Madison, Fayth, Konnor, Tovah, Alev, Logan, and Jackson; along with several nieces, nephews, and lots of friends. A graveside ceremony will be held in the spring at Mount Rest Cemetery in Athens. In lieu of flowers, donations in Avis's memory can be made to the Skowhegan Federated Church.
