Obituary

Vassalboro - Our family is saddened to share the news that Arthur Kerry Greene (affectionately known in the entertainment world as Jr Garritt), passed away on September 13, 2023, at Maine Medical Center, in Portland, Maine, surrounded by family and two dear friends, Steven Trask and Bill Hopkins (T-Bird). Jr Garitt was born in Waterville, Maine, May 8, 1952, to Arthur Wilmont Greene and Grace Ellen Whitten-Greene. He attended Waterville High School and the University of Maine studying music. "Music was my refuge. I could crawl in between the notes and curl my back to the loneliness." -Maya Angelo- From an early age, Jr Garritt knew he was to become a musician and songwriter. He was born a gypsy spirit; music was his passion, taking him from Maine to Tennessee and other parts of the country making a name for himself. He did promotion and production work for numerous fellow musicians in Maine and Tennessee. He enjoyed cooking, became known as "Chef Arty". He enjoyed family gatherings, painting, and spending time with fellow musicians. He was active in music right up to the day of his passing. "Music has healing power. It has the ability to take people out of themselves for a few hours." -Elton John- Survived by his partner, Courtney Rowe of Skowhegan, his children; Terri Flaherty and family of Old Orchard Beach, Christopher Soucy and family of Winslow, Tracy Soucy McLaughlin and family of Dayton, Jason Greene and family of Skowhegan, Jeremy Greene and family of California, Jessica Greene and family of Waterville, Dakota Greene and family of Kennebunkport, sister Patricia Trask and family of Vassalboro, as well as several grandchildren, nieces, and nephews. His family, friends and fellow musicians and chefs will miss Jr Garritt. A Celebration of Life with a musical sendoff will occur in the spring 2024 in the Old Orchard Beach area. Location and time to be announced at a later time.
