Obituary

Canaan – Ann L. Doughty, 71, formerly of South Portland, passed away on March 29, 2025. Ann was born on November 16, 1953, in Wilmington Delaware, to the late Beverly (Doughty) DiBiase and the late Lester R. Fournier. However, Ann was raised and nurtured by her maternal grandparents, the late Clarence and M. Irene Doughty; who died in 1975 and 1987, respectfully; whom she loved and where she spent her childhood. Ann attended South Portland schools and received her GED in 1977 from the CETA Program. She worked as a receptionist at The Neighborhood Youth Corps, as a teen Mom. She went on to become a switchboard operator for many years at New England Tel & Tel, Maine Medical Center, the former Jacksonbrook Institute and Colby College. In 1982 Ann moved to Canaan, where she enjoyed the country life with her longtime partner of 44 years, susan DiBiase. They raised children, enjoyed their family life, and happy family vacations to Florida, New Hampshire, and Massachusetts. In 1987 Ann was fortunate enough to have traveled to Hawaii, for a very big adventure, with her dear friend, the late Sandra Crawford. Ann and Sue also felt very blessed to have gone to Las Vegas a few times. Ann loved crafts, Bingo, scrapbooking, sketching, and painting. However, her main joy in life was always her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. They were all so precious to her heart! Ann was predeceased by her grandparents, her parents, her very special Aunt, Sandra Barracks, her special Uncle, Dave Doughty, and her only ever son-in-law L. Scott Emerton, and her sister Denise Berrick. Ann is survived by the best partner ever Susan DiBiase of Canaan, her only child Angela Doughty of Portland, three wonderful grandchildren Cassie Skidgell of Norridgewock, Dustin Emerton of Portland, and Wrendysue Emerton of Skowhegan, four precious great-grandchildren Jerry Clark, Bronek Siviski, Brynlee Silvia, and Emmett Chapman. She also leaves behind a very special niece whom she helped raise, Christina Clark of Waterville and her three grown children, Kyla, Johathan, and Leah Cuetara. Also surviving are Ann's siblings, sister Brenda DiBiase of Windham and brother Brian Berrick of Windham. Ann had many special and dear to her heart, cousins, nieces, nephews, and friends; too many to name but you know who you are! Ann felt so blessed to have had in her life over thirty-five plus years of friendship with Angela Ann Fournier of Westbrook, as well as a very close friend and cousin, Christel Delano, of New Gloucester. Ann considered herself a very fortunate woman to have so many wonderful friends and acquaintances during her life! If you would like to make a donation in her name; she was a longtime member of St. Jude's. There will be a Celebration of Life on May 10, 2025, at 3:00pm held at Moody's Collision Center located at 200 Narragansett St. in Gorham. A second Celebration of Life for Ann will be scheduled at a later date in Canaan.
