Obituary

Alice Ouellette Saucier 1928-2014 MADISON – Alice Ouellette Saucier, 85, passed away peacefully at her home in East Madison in the early afternoon of February 22 with her loving family by her side. Alice was born Alice Lillian Boynton in Connecticut on May 31, 1928 to Reginald and Leona Boynton. She graduated from the Leon Institute of Hair Design in Waterbury, Connecticut in 1946 and shorty after her family moved to Smithfield, Maine. Alice married Willard J. Ouellette on April 12, 1948, making their home in East Madison, and raising their family: Brad, Linda, Keith, Paul, Veronica and David. She was predeceased by Willard who died on March 19, 1970 shortly after David’s birth. Alice combined and balanced motherhood with a career as a hairdresser. For many years she operated “Alice’s Beauty Shoppe” in her East Madison home. Alice married Reginald (Reggie) Saucier on July 18, 1986. She sold her house and she and Reggie moved next door. Alice and Veronica opened “Alice and Company Salon and Spa” in downtown Skowhegan in 1989. The business expanded and eventually moved to its current location at the corner of Madison Avenue and Leavitt Street. Alice retired in 2001. Alice had a lot of interests. She loved spending time with her children and grandchildren. She enjoyed music; playing the piano and accordion; maintaining her beautiful flowers and gardens; creating beautiful stained glass pieces, lamps and cabinet doors; needle point; knitting and quilting. Alice had a lifelong interest in horses and horseback riding – a pastime that has been passed on to her two daughters. Alice was part of the fabric of East Madison. Through her own kindness and the interactions of her six children she touched the lives of many. The woman with the wonderful smile and the beautiful red hair will be missed by many. Alice was predeceased by Reggie who passed away on December 30, 2013 and brother, Larry Boynton. Alice is survived by her children, son Brad Ouellette and wife Linda of Embden, daughter Linda Ouellette of East Madison, son Keith Ouellette of Madison, son Paul Ouellette of East Madison, daughter Veronica Wright and husband Jim of Cornville, son David Ouellette and wife Allison of East Madison; and all of her beautiful grandchildren Ryan Snell, Alicia Ouellette-Belmore, Renee Wright, Monica Ouellette, Steven Ouellette, Aliya Ouellette, Maranda Ouellette, and Isaac Ouellette. She is also survived by her sister Loraine Arsenault and husband Frances. A memorial service will be held at 9am, Wednesday, February 26 at Notre Dame de Lourdes Catholic Church, Water Street, Skowhegan with Deacon Steve Kramer. Interment will be in the spring at Calvary Cemetery, Skowhegan. In lieu of flowers, Alice’s family hopes you will plant a tree, a shrub, a flower: watch it grow and nurture it in memory of Alice’s loving care of her gardens and her family.

Alice’s family extends their appreciation to all of the hospice volunteers and nurses: Sister Janet Gagnon, Lynda Van Tuinen, and Suzie Matthews whose help, kindness and love helped Alice continue to live in the comfort of her home until her passing. It is in honor of their compassionate care that donations may be made in Alice’s memory to MaineGeneral HomeCare & Hospice, 10 Water Street, Waterville, ME 04901.
